Terms

The deal, in plain words. Where something can go wrong it is written down here rather than left for you to find out.

What you get

There are two plans. What each one holds, on the computer and on the phone, is written out on the pricing page, and that list is the one that counts.

Free. The Chrome extension and the Windows app, for nothing, with the parts the pricing page lists under Free. You can also put Instagram and YouTube on your own iPhone for nothing, using your own Apple ID and a Windows computer once. Apple limits an app installed that way to seven days at a time, so the app on your phone renews itself in the background. That needs a free helper app from Apple's App Store, which is not ours.

FLOW STATE. $9.99 a month when a year is paid at once, which is $119.88 billed, or $19.99 a month. On the phone it blocks as many apps as you like and blocks adult content.

On the phone. The phone apps run on your own Apple ID, the same way as the free route. We never sign apps for you and we do not provide an Apple developer account. More than two custom blocked apps need your own paid Apple Developer account, bought from Apple. Focusmaxxing does not provide one.

Paying for a plan

Payment is taken by Stripe. We never see or hold your card details. A subscription renews by itself, yearly or monthly as you chose, until you cancel it.

Cancelling. Any time, from your account page, in two clicks. You keep your plan until the period you have already paid for ends, and it does not renew after that. We do not ask why and there is nothing to sit through.

Refunds. If a plan is not what you expected, write within 14 days of paying and we will refund it in full. After that, a payment already taken is not refundable, except where the law where you live says otherwise — and where it does, the law wins. If we ever take a payment we should not have, we refund it whenever we find out.

Price changes. The price you signed up at is the price you keep for as long as your subscription runs unbroken. If we change it, you get at least 30 days' notice before it affects you, and you can cancel in that time.

Apple, and pauses

This is the part most worth reading. Apps that do not come from the App Store run on a signing certificate, and Apple can cancel a certificate at any time, without warning and without giving a reason. It has happened to every service that works this way. If it happens:

So: a paid plan is not a promise that it will never go down. Anyone telling you otherwise about sideloaded iPhone apps is guessing or selling something.

The same honesty applies elsewhere. Instagram and YouTube change their apps whenever they like, and a change can break a switch until we catch up. Google can change Chrome. These are upkeep, and keeping up with them is what a subscription pays for — but a specific feature working on a specific day is not something we can promise.

We do not control, and are not responsible for, Apple, Google, Meta or the helper app from the App Store.

What focusmaxxing is not

It is friction, not a wall. Every block here can be undone by the person who set it — that is the point, and it is said on every screen that sets one. The wait, the 24-hour lock and the countdown exist to make an impulse cost you something, not to make anything impossible. Someone determined to get around focusmaxxing will get around it.

It is not treatment. focusmaxxing is a tool for managing your own attention. It is not medical or psychological care and is not a substitute for it. If your use of anything is hurting you, please talk to somebody qualified.

It is not parental-control software and is not built or tested for controlling someone else's device.

Your side

If a subscription is used in a way that breaks these, we may end it. If we do, we refund whatever part of it you had paid for and not used.

Ending it

You can stop any time: cancel the subscription, delete the extension, uninstall the app, delete the phone apps. Nothing of ours keeps running afterwards and nothing has to be asked for permission.

We can stop too. If we ever shut the paid plan down we will say so at least 30 days beforehand, refund the unused part of every subscription, and leave the free route working — it does not depend on us at all, and its source is published, so it cannot be taken away.

The rest

Open source. Parts of focusmaxxing are built from other people's free software, and those parts carry their own licences, which override anything here that disagrees with them. They are all listed on the open source page.

No warranty. focusmaxxing is provided as it is. We do not promise it will be free of faults, always available, or right for any particular purpose. Nothing here takes away rights the law gives you as a consumer where you live.

Liability. We are not liable for anything you lose indirectly — missed work, lost data, lost time, a site you could not reach. Where we are liable for something, it is capped at what you have paid us in the twelve months before it happened. Nothing here limits liability for fraud, or for anything the law does not allow to be limited.

Changes. These terms can change. If a change matters to you, we will say so before it takes effect, and continuing to use focusmaxxing after that is how you accept it. The date at the bottom is when this version was written.

Your rights where you live. focusmaxxing is sold everywhere. Wherever you are, you keep every consumer right your own country gives you, and where one of those disagrees with anything written here, it wins.

Reaching us. hello@focusmaxxing.net. One person answers it, so give it a day or two.
